Very helpful to have a guide that narrows it down to commonly found mushrooms in Alaska! The color photos help with identification, and I found the general genus descriptions useful. I learned a lot by reading the text, and it is a good reference guide to refer to in the field or back home after a foray.
I have a new appreciation for mushrooms after reading the introduction to this book. Not only are they nutritional powerhouses loaded with protein, potassium, selenium, zinc and vitamins B and D but they can actually clean up the environment as well by breaking down toxins. I also found myself admiring the photos of these stunning, colorful and sometimes odd looking fungi.
